Ia lahir di Jakarta pada tanggal 21 April 1969. Ia lulus pada tahun 1992 dari Departemen Fisika, Universitas Indonesia dan meraih gelar masternya juga dari Departemen yang sama pada tahun 1996. Ia meraih gelar doktor dalam bidang Fisika Nuklir Teoritis dari Universitas Frankfurt pada tahun 2002 di bawah bimbingan Prof. Dr. J. A. Maruhn dan Prof. Dr.h.c.mult W. Greiner.
