Ia lahir di Jakarta pada tanggal 28 Mei 1964. Ia meraih gelar Doctor rerum naturalium (Doktor sains) dari Universitaet Giessen, Jerman dengan judul disertasi \u201cRechenergesteuerte Online Optimierung Flugzeitmassenspektrometer\u201d.
